You Were Never Really Here
Joe (Joaquin Phoenix ) is a Gulf War veteran suffering from PTSD due to the horrors he encountered in the war, as well as his own abusive childhood. He lives with his mother and works as a hired gun to recover girls sold into trafficking.
Joe is tasked with finding Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov), the daughter of State Senator Albert Votto (Alex Manette). Joe manages to recover Nina, only for crooked cops to take her back. Those involved with the kidnapping and trafficking scheme go after those closest to Joe, including his mother.
It is discovered that Votto had sold Nina to Governor Williams (Alessandro Nivola) to gain favor with him as he tried to move up the ranks politically. Votto felt guilty and jumped off a building to his death.
Joe follows Williams to his home to get Nina, only to see that she has killed Williams. Joe takes her away to safety.
