After several failed attempts to sabotage the construction of the palace Numerobis is building, including the destruction of new materials, trapping the Gauls in the Great Pyramid (they escape thanks to Dogmatix), and framing them for an assassination attempt on Cleopatra with a poisoned cake, Artifis and his servant are forced to work as laborers on the palace. Julius Caesar attempts to stop the construction himself, first by hiring three mercenary brothers to dispose of the magic potion and kidnap Getafix, only for Asterix and Obelix to rescue him. When a direct attack by Roman legionaries is repelled, the Romans bring in catapults to destroy the palace. Asterix and Dogmatix deliver a message to Cleopatra about Caesar’s actions. Outraged by his lack of sportsmanship, Cleopatra reprimands Caesar and orders him to stop the siege. Humiliated, Caesar orders his men to life the siege and help repair the palace.

Once the palace is completed, Numerobis is rewarded by Cleopatra by being covered with gold. Cleopatra sends the Gauls home on her luxury boat. Numerobis and Artifis reconcile during a feast onboard the ship. Back home, the Gauls celebrate with their traditional feast.
