Possession
Maud Bailey (Gwyneth Paltrow) and a fellow literary researcher
Roland Michell (Aaron Eckhart) uncover an affair between married
Victorian poet laureate Randolph Henry Ash (Jeremy Northam) and
Christabel LaMotte (Jennifer Ehle). They discover letters that reveal
that Christabel's lesbian lover had drowned herself over the affair and
that the couple had had a child, which turns out to be Maud's
great-grandmother. (Maud had believed Christabel to be her great aunt.)
While following the trail of clues across England to France of the
impassioned couple's romantic journey over a century ago, the
present-day scholars fall in love.
