Pieces of April

As April Burns' (Katie Holmes') family arrives for Thanksgiving dinner, they meet her black boyfriend (Derek Luke). Shocked, they leave without a word to April, who is devastated. As the family orders dinner at a diner, April's mother Joy (Patricia Clarkson) goes to the bathroom, where she sees a mother verbally abusing her daughter. She walks out of the restaurant and hitches a ride with a biker back to the city. The movie ends with a still montage of Joy arriving back at April's apartment for dinner, closely followed by the rest of the Burns family.
