Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) returns to NJ for his mother's funeral after nearly a decade in LA. "Large" meets up with old friends and a new love, Sam (Natalie Portman). He doesn't take the lithium meds his psychiatrist father had him on since childhood (after he had caused a household accident which left his mother paralyzed). After an emotional airport good-bye to Sam four days after meeting her, Large gets off the plane and stays in New Jersey and off the meds to rediscover his life.
