Trilby (Marian Marsh) is unable to escape the hypnotic spell of Svengali (John Barrymore) until the aging maestro suffers a fatal heart attack. As his breath drains away, Svengali prays for the one thing he could never have in life–Trilby’s legitimate affection. Trilby calls out his name lovingly, and dies. Svengali expires with a smile on his face.
