Pooper:
The priests succeed in manifesting Satan in Marek’s body. Satan destroys the monk Piotr, paralyzes the other monks, and then opens a portal to Hell.

Long Ending:
In 1980s Poland, eight women are reported missing. Their last known whereabouts were near a secluded church in the countryside. A detective named Marek (Piotr Żurawski) goes undercover as a monk to investigate the church. When he arrives, he finds all the surrounding plantlife has died and withered. The church is led by Prior Andrzej (Olaf Lubaszenko), and they specialize in exorcisms of people who have been abandoned by their families due to possession. Marek witnesses one such exorcism. The possessed woman screams, wind blows through the room, her bed shakes, and the exorcism culminates in Andrzej’s crucifix combusting before the woman passes out. Marek also has visions where his teeth rot and that flies emerge from within his body.

As Marek investigates, he finds that the supernatural phenomena were all faked. A hidden fan generates the wind, hidden floor panels rock the bed, and a secret button on the crucifix ignites it on fire. One of the monks, Piotr (Sebastian Stankiewicz), notices Marek is snooping around the church and arranges a late night clandestine meeting with him. At the meeting, Marek reveals he is a cop. Piotr confirms that the exorcisms are fake (the women are drugged to act demonically), saying that the church uses them to get more money from the Vatican (which pays per exorcism). He also says he wants Marek to help him escape as the church is holding him hostage. Finally, Piotr tells Marek that the bodies of the women he is looking for were buried in the nearby cemetery (saying Andrzej kills the women to ensure they can’t expose the plot). Marek sneaks out to the cemetery and digs up one of the graves he finds there. He pries open the coffin within, only to find it empty. Another monk then sneaks up behind Marek and knocks him out.

When Marek awakens, he is tied to a bed. Andrzej has one of his monks beat Marek and force him to eat a stew with mystery meat in it. That night, Marek manages to break free from his bonds and kills the monk guarding him. He then breaks into a secret room where he finds the butchered corpses of the missing women (realizing that the monks fed their flesh to him in the stew). Monk Piotr finds Marek and brings him to the library. He says that he realized Andrzej believes Marek is the antichrist due to him being born during an eclipse and bearing a birthmark in the shape of the numbers “666” (the mark of Satan). Piotr shows Marek a book Andrzej was reading where if the antichrist is not stopped, he will be possessed by Satan, turn into a beast, and bring about the end of days. Piotr says Andrzej is crazy and trying to kill Marek . He shows Marek an underground passage he can use to escape. But it turns out Piotr is actually devoted to Andrzej and that he led Marek into a trap. Marek is ambushed by the monks in the underground tunnel and brought and held captive in on a subterranean altar in front of a deep well.

The monks all congregate in the subterranean room. Andrzej explains that he learned of Marek ‘s identity as the anti-christ and bribed officials to have him assigned to the missing person’s case. Their church sits atop a gateway to Hell that will open at the end of days. The Monks believe that humanity has descended into evil and cannot be redeemed. Therefore, they do not intend to kill Marek , but rather, ensure that he will fulfill his prophecy to bring about the apocalypse. The monks then intend to then help rebuild a new world where humans can live a pure life. To bring about the apocalypse, the anti-christ must consume the bodies of 7 sinners (thus why they killed the 7 “sinful” non-virgin women and fed them to Marek ), and drink the blood of an innocent. They bring in the 8th missing woman (an “innocent” virgin) and slit her throat, then force Marek to drink the blood. However, nothing happens. Unsure what to do, the monks kill Marek and throw his body into the well. That night, Andrzej gets drunk and passes out. Piotr enters his room and smothers Andrzej to death with a pillow (disillusioned by the failure of the ritual and wanting to take over the church himself). A fly emerges from Andrzej’s body.

The next morning, the fly makes it’s way down the well and lands on Marek . The officer arises from the dead and finds the well floor is full of bones and skulls. Marek’s flesh then melts off and he is transformed into a Satanic beast – with hooves, horns and a long tail. The beast emerges from the well and interrupts the Monks during their daily prayers. The beast levitates Piotr into the air and painfully transforms Piotr’s body into a swarm of flies. The other monks try to flee, but the beast freezes them and then levitates them into the air in an upside-down crucifix position. The beast then stares at a large crucifix, and the figure of Jesus moves its head to stare back. As this happens, a gigantic gateway to Hell opens, signaling the beginning of the end of days.
