Michelle (Emma Stone) IS the Andromedan Empress Teddy (Jesse Plemons) kept claiming all along, and decides to kill all humans on Earth, having deemed them a failed race.

A major revelation shows us that Sandy (Alicia Silverstone), Teddy’s mom, was left comatose after test trials involving a drug from Michelle’s company, Auxolith -where Teddy also worked as a janitor-, went awry; in turn, Michelle covered up the malfeasance and agreed to pay for her subsequent medical treatment to keep her alive.

During Michelle’s abduction and torture, Teddy apparently comes to realize that, because of her seemingly high tolerance to the electrocution applied to her, Michelle “must be a high-ranking member of the Andromedan elite”. He devises a plan to have her over upstairs for dinner and ease things up, hoping to get her to confess. However, things quickly sour up when Michelle and Teddy get into a fight, Michelle defends herself stabbing Teddy with a fork and Casey (Stavvy Halkias) -who was involved in the investigation of Michelle’s abduction- appears at the house, having tracked her phone signal.

Don (Aidan Delbis) quickly pulls Michelle back down to the basement while Teddy tries to distract Casey by showing him his decimated beekeeping colony; unfortunately, a gunshot is heard and, when Casey attempts to see what happened, Teddy beats him to death. It turns out Michelle was trying to reason with Don and get him to give up Teddy in exchange for her helping him, but Teddy, already uneasy about the whole plan, shoots and kills himself.

Michelle, then, convinces an unraveling Teddy that a jug of vehicle antifreeze fluid she keeps in her car will help wake his mother up; he goes to the hospital and injects Sandy with the fluid, killing her. While this happens, Michelle manages to free herself, only to discover Teddy had abducted and killed many other people he firmly believed were Andromedans like herself.

When Teddy returns and confronts Michelle, she appears to admit actually being an Andromedan and explains “the actions of her people”, about how Andromedans caused the accidental extinction of dinosaurs and, as atonement, helped create a new species that would eventually evolve into the human race, yet became despondent with humans seeing how they seemed to have failed when everyone started destroying each other. Moreover, the botched experiment that left Sandy in a coma was “something intended to help humans evolve into a more perfect race”.

She appears to convince Teddy and agrees to return to the offices of Auxolith, to conduct a meeting with the other members of the Andromedan elite. Upon arrival, as police are alerted of their presence, Teddy reveals to be carrying a suicide bomb and Michelle asks him to enter her closet, where supposedly the portal to her mother ship is to be activated by her. He enters the closet and, while she is “activating the teleporter”, the bomb goes off, killing him and knocking her unconscious. Michelle wakes up in an ambulance as the lunar eclipse -when the contact between the Andromedans and the Earth would take place- happens. She jumps off it and returns to Auxolith… AND, THEN, THE MAJOR SURPRISE IS SHOWN: she enters that same closet where Teddy died and, indeed, a portal opens, which allows her to reach the Andromedan mothership, thus revealing SHE REALLY WAS THE EMPRESS OF THE ANDROMEDANS!!

She consults her fellow high-ranking members and, after some deliberation, it is decided that the human race is doomed beyond repair and better off disappearing; thus, she bursts what looks like a protective bubble on an Earth diorama, which causes every single human on the planet to drop dead. The movie ends with the bees returning as a despondent Michelle weighs on her decision to leave Earth devoid of human life.
