Jonathan Cross (Chris Klein) is well aware that Alexi (Jean Reno) intends to have him killed in a game, for the benefit of the ratings and a “North American cable deal,” but he manages to outlast the rest of the players. When Jonathan finally gets his hands on the ball, he uses it to smash the glass to Alexi’s private box, then chases him down and kills him. Jonathan’s antics incite a mine workers’ rebellion, and the last remnants of old-style Soviet opression are thrown off at last.

This movie is a remake of a 1975 original.
