They can’t kill the captured alien or the other aliens will wipe out the human race.  It’s insinuated that the aliens want Wyatt because of his immunity.  Wyatt blows up the house killing the aliens and sending the ship running.  Wyatt leaves a crispy alien corpse on the door step of Cody and Timmy’s father’s house.
