After a year-long troubled relationship, Alvy (Woody Allen) and Annie (Diane Keaton) split up and she ends with a Californian record producer (played by Paul Simon).

He flies to LA to win her back but he does not succeed, since she rejects him in their last meeting at a cafe.

After some time, Alwyn writes a successful play based on their story in which, however, the main character does succeed in getting the girl back (“you are always trying to get things to come out perfect in art because it`s real difficult in life”).

We are told that he and Annie met again, by chance, in NY. They had a long chat and agreed to stay friends and in good terms.
