Pooper:
Ellen reaffirms her vow to be with Orlok eternally and lets him drink her blood. This distracts Count Orlok enough that Thomas, Von Franz and Sievers are able to destroy his coffin and Orlok is killed by the rising sun (and Ellen dies of blood loss).

Long Ending:
Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) has a troubled childhood. One night, she cries out for any spirit or force to come save her. She is answered by an incorporeal spirit named Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), who is awakened from a centuries-long sleep by her cries. Ellen vows to be with Orlok forever if only he will keep her company. Orlok says that one day, he will come to be with her in the flesh

As an adult, Ellen is now married to Thomas (Nicholas Hoult) and lives with him in the city of Wisborg in Germany. They are good friends with Ellen’s childhood buddy Anna (Emma Corrin) and her wealthy husband, the heir of a shipping company named Friedrich (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Thomas works for a real estate company run by his boss, a man named Knock (Simon McBurney). Knock tells Thomas that he is being sent to Transylvania to sell a dilapidated local castle to a wealthy count named…. Orlok. If Thomas closes the transaction, he’ll be made a partner. Ellen pleads with Thomas not to go, noting that his love saved her from a grim fate and that she’s worried his departure will lead her to fall back into the darkness of her youth. Thomas departs, assuring Ellen that everything will be OK. Friedrich and Anna agree to have Ellen move in with them while Thomas is away. Meanwhile, Knock (a secret devotee of the occult) telepathically tells Orlok that the Count’s plans have been set in motion.

When Thomas arrives in Transylvania, he stays with a clan of Romani for the night. There, he witnesses them kill a reanimated corpse – a vampire. They plead with Thomas not to go to Orlok, saying Orlok is a vampire in league with the devil. Thomas presses ahead and meets the Count. He soon is convinced that Orlok is indeed a vampire, suffering awful nightmares and finding bite marks on his chest while staying at the castle (not to mention that Orlok looks like a hideous monster and terrifies Thomas whenever they are in a room together). One day, Thomas finds Orlok asleep in a coffin filled with the dirt of his cursed castle. Orlok awakens when Thomas tries to kill him with a pickaxe to the heart and then commands wolves to attack. Thomas flees and jumps out of a window and into a river, narrowly surviving the fall. He is nursed back to health by local nuns. Meanwhile, with the paperwork to buy the castle in Wisborg signed, Orlok loads himself and his coffin onto a ship bound for Wisborg.

During this time, Ellen has night terrors and sees visions of Orlok. Friedrich hires a doctor named Sievers (Ralph Ineson) to treat Ellen. However, between his treatment of Ellen and Knock (who was incarcerated after killing and eating sheep raw in the marketplace), he realizes that both are suffering from visions that a terrifying creature named Orlok is coming. Meanwhile, Orlok slaughters the sailors and his ship crashes into the shores of Wisborg. Knock breaks free from his cell and helps the Count relocate to his new castle. Orlok unleashes a horde of rats on the city, and the rats begin spreading the plague. Thomas also returns to Wisborg, feeble but alive. He learns about the deal Ellen made as a child to be with him eternally and they both vow to destroy the vampire. Ellen also confides that while she loves Thomas, a part of her yearns to be with Orlok even though the Count is death personified.

With the plague growing out of control and Knock now missing, Sievers contacts his old medical professor von Franz (Willem Dafoe), who has studied the occult his whole career. von Franz deduces that the issues are the work of a vampire and, after Sievers introduces him to Ellen, is able to link Orlok to the plague. Later that night, Orlok visits Ellen and demands she renew her vow to be with him. She rejects the vampire, saying her true love is Thomas. Orlok threatens to kill everything Ellen loves (including destroying the entire world) until she relents. The next night, Orlok hypnotizes Friedrich and then kills Anna and their children. A despondent Friedrich (who rejected von Franz’s claims regarding Orlok’s vampirism) kills himself. Professor von Franz tells Thomas and Sievers that the only way to kill Orlok is to destroy his coffin and the cursed dirt inside. If he has no coffin filled with cursed soil to return to, the vampire will be destroyed by the sunlight. The men vow to attack Orlok that night. However, von Franz secretly tells Ellen that he knows their mission will fail unless she takes an active role in destroying the vampire.

That night, the three men break into Orlok’s castle and rip open his coffin. They find Knock inside. Before killing Knock, he says that Orlok has gone to protect his bride. They set the coffin ablaze and then run back towards Thomas’ home where Ellen is. Meanwhile, Ellen has thrown her window open wide and cries out to Orlok that she is ready to renew her vows. The vampire appears and she leads him to her bedroom where they kiss and Orlok begins drinking her blood from Ellen’s chest. The sun slowly begins to rise, but Ellen holds Orlok close to her. Once the sun fully rises, it streams into her room and Orlok is disintegrated. Thomas and the others arrive just in time to watch as Ellen dies from blood loss – clasping Thomas’ hand in one hand and cradling Orlok’s charred remains in her other. von Franz comments on her noble sacrifice as the film ends.
