LONG VERSION
Jane Chandler (Jacqueline McKenzie) is a particle physicist in Perth, Australia. She and her assistant Regg (Ben Mortley) are trying to develop a teleportation machine, but are not having much success. They are able to send items out of one machine, but they are not showing up in the other one. When she’s not at the lab, Jane and her husband Matt (Myles Pollard), along with their teenage kids Jake and Samantha, have a normal family life. Jane and Matt also meet up at lunchtime everyday. One day, Jane and Regg have a breakthrough when they discover that the items they are trying to teleport are actually travelling to an alternate universe. They are able to communicate with the other universe, where they discover that an alternate Jane and Regg are also working on a teleportation machine. During her lunch break, she goes to her usual meeting place to see Matt and tell him the news, but he never shows up. Later, she learns that Matt was killed in a car accident on the way to meet her.

After several days of grieving, Jane decides to teleport herself to the alternate universe, hoping that she’ll see that universe’s Matt. Despite Regg’s protests, he agrees to help her. She successfully travels to the alternate universe and goes to that universe’s version of the meeting place, and she sees Matt. He is surprised to see Jane, because in that universe, she was killed a few days ago, in a way that was similar to how Matt died. The two immediately hit it off, and after she learns that this Jane and Matt never had kids, she asks Matt to come to her universe with her, and he agrees. Now back in her universe, she introduces Matt to Regg, but Matt takes an immediate disliking to her assistant. She then takes him home, and he meets a shocked Jake and Samantha. They are happy to have “their father” back, but they seem to be leery of him, especially Jake. They all agree to not say anything to anyone about Matt’s return, since everyone thinks he’s dead.

When Matt traveled to Jane’s universe, he brought a cellphone-sized device with him that works like a taser. He says that his world is very dangerous and everyone has one of these devices for protection. In reality, it’s not a taser, but a weapon that emits a highly powerful charge that can kill a person. This is seen when Matt, despite being told not to, walks to a nearby park and runs into a neighbor, who is surprised to see Matt alive. When the neighbor wants to let everyone know he’s alive, Matt shoots him with the charge, killing him instantly. Later, Jane decides to return to Matt’s universe to get information from that Jane’s research to help with the teleportation machine. Matt goes with her to the lab, and after she teleports, Matt confronts Regg. Matt tells him that in his universe, Jane and Regg were having an affair, and that’s why he killed her, which Jane will realize once she goes to their home. Regg tells him that, in this universe, they are not having an affair, but Matt doesn’t believe him and kills him with the device. He then unplugs the teleportation machine, trapping Jane in the other universe.

In the other universe, Jane goes to her doppelganger’s house, and finds her dead, covered with burn marks. Now knowing that Matt lied to her and is a killer, she tries to teleport back to her universe. Since Matt unplugged the machine, she is unsuccessful. She then finds that universe’s Regg, who tries to kiss her. Once he learns who she really is, Regg confirms to her that he and Jane were having an affair and she was planning on leaving Matt. After she tells him about the murder and the teleportations, he says that would explain why he couldn’t get in contact with either of them. Since he has a copy of their teleportation machine at his apartment, just like Regg does in Jane’s universe, he helps her teleport back to her universe. When she arrives at her house, with plans to confront Matt, she sees Matt and the kids, and herself! She then realizes that there are other alternate universes, and she’s in the wrong one. She goes back to Regg’s apartment to tell him what happened, and this time he gets her to the right universe. After her return, she goes to the lab and finds Regg dead, with the same burn marks from the weapon that the other Jane had.

At the house, Jane tells Matt it’s time for him to go back to his universe, but he refuses, since he’ll be a wanted man there. He still doesn’t believe that this universe’s Jane and Regg weren’t having an affair, and after he kills her for betraying her husband, he’ll know better how to get away with it. Just as he’s about to shoot Jane, Jake attacks Matt with a cricket bat, knocking him out. Jane apologizes to her kids for bringing this Matt into their lives, and if she ever teleports herself again, she’ll never bring anyone back with her from another universe. They tie up Matt and bring him to the lab. Jane has plugged in the machine again, then she puts Matt into it. Thanks to the alternate Regg, she now knows how to teleport to other universes, so she sends Matt to a different universe than his own. When he wakes up, he finds that he has been teleported to a universe where the entire planet is a prison. The story ends two months later. Jane is at home with her kids when there’s a knock at the door. She answers and it’s the alternate Regg, who tells her that she’s in the wrong universe!
