Widow’s Peak()

Ms. Katherine O’Hare (Mia Farrow) and Mrs. Edwina Broome (Natasha Richardson) are not enemies like they appear throughout most of the movie – in fact, they are mother and daughter. They decided to get revenge on the very proper ladies inhabiting “Widow’s Peak” because 30 years before the ladies of Widow’s Peak made Ms. O’Hare give up for adoption the child she had out of wedlock. Their revenge is suing the ladies of Widow’s Peak for slandering the reputation of Mrs. Broome based on circumstantial evidence that appears to show that she killed Ms. O’Hare. The town dentist (Jim Broadbent), who turns out to be married to Ms. O’Hare, and the drunk English sailor who appeared to blow Mrs. Broome’s cover were both in on the plan.
