The Reapers are not a natural new breed of vampires, they are genetically engineered. Blade (Wesley Snipes) is being double-crossed by the vampires who hired him. He kills everyone. Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) also survives.
Long Ending:
Blade (Wesley Snipes) – a half-vampire superhero who can walk in daylight – rescues his father figure Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) (who was originally thought killed in the first film but was in fact turned into a vampire and had been tortured by them ever since). He administers a cure to reverse Whistler’s vampirism and welcomes his former mentor back into the fold. Blade has been working with a new engineer named Scud (Norman Reedus) in his vampire hunting efforts. Meanwhile, a strange supernatural figure named Nomak (Luke Goss), is also hunting vampires. He himself is a mutant vampire that feeds on vampiric and human blood. Once bitten, his victims turn into creatures like him called “Reapers.” Unlike vampires, the Reapers are immune to garlic and silver and are unable to think independently from Nomak. They feed by having their jaws split open and then attack with an enlarged spiked tongue.
Blade is approached by members of the Blood Pack – a special group of vampire assassins who were trained to specifically hunt down Blade. They consist of Reinhardt (Ron Perlman), Chupa, Asad, Snowman (Donnie Yen), Verlaine, Priest, and Lighthammer. The group is led by Nyssa (Leonor Varela) – who is the daughter of pureblood vampire king Damaskinos (Thomas Kretschmann). They’ve determined that the Reapers are a bigger and more imminent threat, and ask Blade to help them hunt down and kill Nomak and his rapidly growing brood. He accepts (over Whistler’s objections), on condition that the vampires share their deepest secrets with him. During an early skirmish with the Reapers, Priest is killed and Lighthammer is bitten (and covers up his bite). Blade also rejects an offer by Nomak to join forces to take down the vampires. The group discovers that the Reapers can be killed by sunlight. Whistler and Scud therefore work together to build bombs that emit UV lights that can destroy the Reapers. Although Blade and Nyssa develop a mutual respect (and attraction), the rest of the Blood Pack (especially the racist Reinhardt) still hate him.
The group launches an assault on the hive where the Reapers live. Things go awry after they split up. Lighthammer turns into a Reaper and kills Snowman before Verlaine (Lighthammer’s lover) intentionally kills them both by exposing them to sunlight. The Reaper are able to ambush and kill Asad. Reinhardt and Chupa double cross Blade by going off with Whistler and then trying to kill him, only for Whistler to attract the Reapers’ attention (and the monsters kill Chupa). Blade ultimately manages to set up a large explosion of the UV bombs that take out most of the Reapers, but also severely injures Nyssa. Not wanting her to die, Blade allows Nyssa to suck his blood so she can heal. Having been weakened by his sacrifice, Blade is attacked by Reinhardt and taken captive along with Whistler and Scud. They are brought back to Damaskinos’ headquarters.
Damaskinos reveals that he genetically engineered the Reapers in an attempt to make vampires as strong as Blade. Nomak was created specifically using Damaskinos’ blood, and was driven mad by Damaskinos’ lack of love, as well as the pain he felt by being mutated. Damaskinos now intends to use Blade’s blood to perfect his experiments and create day-walking vampires. It’s revealed that Damaskinos was secretly also working with Scud (who betrayed Blade because he felt the vampire victory was inevitable) to infiltrate and attack him. Nyssa is disgusted that Damaskinos created and abandoned Nomak, was willing to sacrifice she and her entire team to clean up the mess, and his betrayal of Blade despite the hero saving her life. Whistler manages to escape his bonds and free Blade, and then leads Blade to a pool of blood where he is rejuvenated. Blade kills Scud and Reinhardt before revealing that during their hunt, he gave Nomak the location of Damaskinos headquarters. Nomak then infiltrates and begins slaughtering everyone.
Damaskinos attempts to escape, but Nyssa locks the two of them in a room so that Nomak can reach them. Damaskinos attempts to get Nomak to join him, but Nomak spurns his father’s offer and kills the vampire king. He then bites Nyssa in order to end Damaskinos’ pureblood bloodline. Blade arrives and rebuffs one final offer of Nomak’s to let him take over. They fight, and Blade eventually manages to wound Nomak by stabbing him in the side. Nomak realizes that death can end his pain and suffering, so he jams the sword in the rest of the way to pierce his heart. As Nyssa transforms into a Reaper, she asks Blade to let her die as a vampire. The pair embrace as Blade takes her outside, where she is killed by the rising sun. Blade then returns to hunting and killing vampires alongside Whistler.
