Riya (Eiza González) has been hallucinating the entire film. Nothing she experienced with Brion (Aaron Paul) was real.

After the accident that claimed the life of Davis (Flying Lotus), the crew discovered that the entire station was infested with an alien parasite. The leader of the expedition Adhi (Iko Uwais) decided they would leave the station, but Riya tried to study the creatures, which led to one getting free, infecting the crew, and causing her to kill most of them in self-defense. It then infected her, made her hallucinate Brion (who was already dead) and forced her to kill Clarke (Kate Elliot).

The parasite, part of a hive collective, says it chose her to take over humanity, which it deems inferior. Riya extracts the parasite from her brain, but it reanimates Brion’s corpse that attacks her. After burning his body and the entire station, Riya takes a shuttle back up to the station, apparently safe. However, a mid-credits scene shows unbeknownst to her, the station has been taken over by the aliens, leaving her safety and humanity’s in grave doubt.
