The lives of the four friends come to major resolutions, as a result of their shared book-club experience of reading the Fifty Shades trilogy:

Diane (Diane Keaton) comes to realize that she’d be making a mistake by moving into Adrianne’s (Katie Aselton) house and opens up to both her and Jill (Alicia Silverstone) about it. The two daughters realize their mother deserves to be happy and let her go, wishing her well. She then goes back to Mitchell (Andy Garcia).

Vivian (Jane Fonda) stops denying to herself how much she actually loves Arthur (Don Johnson); she comes back to her veranda, only to be surprised by him having returned -he was going to leave to New York alone, but decided to turn back-. They reassure their feelings for each other and kiss.

Carol (Mary Steenburgen) and her husband Bruce (Craig T. Nelson) mend their marriage issues when he shows up at the recital -after it looked like he wouldn’t- halfway through the song she ended up mistakenly having to dance to; they dance together and reconcile.

Sharon (Candice Bergen) decides to give herself another chance to live and reactivates her dating account. The movie ends as she clicks on George’s (Richard Dreyfuss) profile, hinting they might formally date.
