Christmas in Connecticut

When it is revealed that Martha Stewart-type Elizabeth Lane (Barbara Stanwyck) doesn’t live on a farm, doesn’t have a husband or baby, and can’t cook a thing, her publisher Alexander Yardley (Sidney Greenstreet) fires her. she doesn’t mind too much, because the revelation that she’s single means that she can now pursue war hero Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan). That is, until his fiancé Mary Lee (Joyce Compton) shows up. ‘Uncle’ Felix (S.Z. Sakall) fixes everything by convincing Yardley that another magazine wants Elizabeth (which causes him to retract his firing), and by finding out that Mary Lee has married somebody else. Elizabeth gets to keep her job, and her new man.
