Max (Omri Katz) tries to rescue his little sister, Dani (Thora Birch), from the old home of the Sanderson sisters and tries to get their spell book to save the town’s children from having their souls sucked out.

The 300-year-old witches, Winnie, Sarah, and Mary (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy), catch them before they can escape and are about to suck the soul out of Max (they will become immortal if they steal the soul of a virgin). Just then Allison (Vinessa Shaw) drives up in an SUV, shining the high beams into the house. This freaks out the witch sisters thinking the sun has suddenly risen (sunlight will kill them). This brief diversion allows Max and Dani to escape.

The climax of the movie takes place in the cemetery. Just as the sisters are about to destroy the three children, the sun rises evaporating Sarah and Mary. Meanwhile, Winnie starts to suck Max’s soul out again, but then the rising sun hits her too, freezing her into a stone statue of herself. Max breaks free from her now-frozen clutch. The kids have saved the town of Salem and destroyed the Sanderson sisters.
