I Care a Lot(2020)

Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike) runs an illegal racket where she gets Doctor Karen Amos (Alicia Witt) to declare elderly people who have few or no surviving family members mentally incompetent.

Marla gets appointed their guardian, has the elderly person committed to a nursing home run by a corrupt administrator (Damian Young), and sells off their assets, collecting the money.

Feldstrom (Macon Blair) tries to get his mother out from under Marla’s guardianship, but a judge rules against him.

The scheme unravels when she commits the mother (Diane Wiest) of crime lord Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage). Roman kills Dr. Amos, beats up Marla’s lover Fran (Elza Gonzalez), blows up the apartment that the two are hiding in, tries unsuccessful to break his mother out of the nursing home, kidnaps Marla, drugs her, and drives her car into a lake.

Remarkably, Fran and Marla survive, manage to kidnap and drug Lunyov, and leave him lying naked on a forest road. Lunyov is found, declared a John Doe, and put under Marla’s guardianship!

Lunyov makes a deal with Marla. Lunyov will fund Marla to create a corporate empire of shady caregivers, in exchange for his mother. Marla becomes world-famous and enormously wealthy. Lunyov gets his mother back.

As Marla and Fran are leaving a TV station after an interview, Feldstrom (Macon Blair) reappears and shoots Marla. As Feldstrom is apprehended, Marla dies in Fran’s arms.
