Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) lost his faith as a minister when his wife (Patricia Kalember) died. The crop circles are navigation markers for an invading alien army. The aliens attempt to kill Hess and his family and one attempts to poison Hess’s son Morgan (Rory Culkin). But the aliens’ skin dissolves in water and are driven off the planet. All of Hess’s family survives. Hess realizes that his wife’s dying words were a prediction of the alien invasion and that Morgan’s asthma is a blessing (the alien poison gas cannot enter Morgan’s lungs when he is having an asthma attack). Hess regains his faith and goes back to the church.
