Pooper:
It’s revealed that Laura really was abused by a cult and that David’s father is a demon that the cult forced her to conjure. Paul is secretly working for the cult and shoots and kills Laura when she threatens to kill David. The film ends with David meeting and embracing his demonic father.

Long Ending:
A woman named Laura (Andi Matichak) flees unseen assailants in her car on a dark and stormy night. She eventually pulls over, weeping and saying she “doesn’t want” the baby she is pregnant with. As she cries, she gives birth to a baby boy.

Years later, Laura lives alone with her now pre-teen son David (Luke David Blumm). The pair have a close, loving relationship. One night, however, Laura hears noises in her house. She checks on David and sees him asleep in bed and surrounded by a number of strangers who telepathically slam the door shut on her. Laura calls the cops, but they find no sign of a break in. All the police but a detective name Paul (Emile Hirsch) think Laura made up the home invasion. Paul continues investigating and grows closer with Laura, even developing a romance with her. Soon after the home invasion, David suddenly and inexplicably grows sick. Laura and Paul rush him to the hospital, but the doctors can’t find any cause for David’s sickness. Laura confides to Paul that she was raised as a cult member, and believes that the cult members are the ones stalking her and making David sick.

One night, Laura hears some doctors talking about David in a way suggesting they will kidnap him (and are therefore part of the cult). She sneaks David out of the hospital and drives him home, dropping sickly David off with a neighbor as she returns home to pack their stuff. When she returns for David, Laura finds that he’s killed and eaten their neighbor. David is now fully healed as a result of his attack and cannibalism. Laura alters the crime scene to make it seem as though the neighbor was attacked by the cult. She then takes David and drives off with him, discarding her cell phone along the way.

As Paul investigates further, his partner shows him media reports stating that Laura was actually the victim of a sex trafficking ring run by her father. He finds Laura’s old psychologist who claims that Laura made up the cult to deal with her trauma. Meanwhile, Laura tracks down a childhood friend to ask him to help her remember what did happen in her youth (as she’s largely repressed her memories). The friend confirms they were members of a cult, and that Laura was repeatedly raped by a demon. Later that night, David becomes sick again. Laura lures a pimp into their hotel room, and David devours him (and in so doing, regains his health).

Laura decides that she can’t continue letting David devour people and he once again grows sick. She returns to her home and tries to call forth the demon. When it doesn’t come, Laura yells into the air that she will kill David unless the demon appears and takes away David’s need to eat human flesh. A demonic shape moves in the background, but then disappears when Paul and the police arrive, guns drawn. Paul begs Laura to let David go, but she responds that she’d rather kill David than let him turn into a monster. Paul then shoots Laura dead before she can stab her son.

David later awakens in a hospital bed, healed because Paul has cut off some of his own flesh and fed it to the boy. Paul reveals that he was secretly part of the cult and that David is very special. Paul then opens the door to reveal a demon – David’s father – watching over David. The boy leaps out of the hospital bed and embraces his demonic father.
