Pooper:
The spirit takes over Daniella’s body and leaves Daniella trapped in Elizabeth’s body (Elizabeth having been mercy killed by Daniella while trapped in Asa’s body).

Long Ending:
A psychiatrist named Dr. Elizabeth Derby (Heather Graham) lives a successful life. She has a caring husband named Edward (Jonathon Schaech), works closely with her best friend Dr. Daniella Upton (Barbara Crampton), and runs a successful practice while being a published author on the psychology of out of body experiences. One day, a young man named Asa Waite (Judah Lewis) visits her office and begs Elizabeth for help. He claims that his dad is forcing him to have out of body experiences, and he asks Elizabeth to come to his home and help confront his dad. Although Elizabeth is initially dismissive of Asa’ claims, she is taken aback when Asa answers a phone call from his father and suddenly suffers a seizure upon hearing his dad’s voice. When Asa recovers from the seizure, he seems to be a completely different person – cool and confident. He flirts with Elizabeth before ignoring her offers to help and leaving her office. That night, Elizabeth fantasizes about Asa while having sex with Edward.

The next day, she drives to Asa’s house and meets his father Ephraim (Bruce Davison). Ephraim is lascivious and a devotee of the occult, eventually dismissing Elizabeth’s concerns about Asa and demanding she leave the house. Although Elizabeth thinks that there is no more she can do, she is surprised to get a call from Asa that night begging her to come back to his house and help. She arrives to find Ephraim seemingly dead on the floor. As Elizabeth tries to stop Asa from decapitating Ephraim’s corpse, Ephraim regains consciousness and speaks a phrase in an inhuman language. Once Ephraim finishes uttering the phrase, both Asa and Ephraim have a seizure. When Asa awakens, he once again has his confident personality and seduces Elizabeth. As they are having sex, Asa repeats the words his father spoke to Elizabeth and she goes into a seizure. When she recovers, she finds she is in Asa’s body and Asa is in hers. Asa says he loves being in her body and that if they swap bodies 3 times, he’ll be able to live in it permanently. The spell ends and Elizabeth returns to her body. She then watches in horror as Asa decapitates Ephraim, and then she flees the home.

Elizabeth confides what happened to Daniella. Daniella hypothesizes that Elizabeth’s seeming body transfer was really the result of displacing her psyche over the guilt of cheating on Edward. Elizabeth then confides her infidelity to Edward and he kicks her out of their home. After some time passes, she decides to return home and try to patch things up with her husband. While there, she gets a call from Asa. When she answers, he speaks the inhuman words and the pair swap bodies again. Asa (in Elizabeth’s body) seduces Edward and has violent sex with him. Meanwhile, Elizabeth (in Asa’s) body finds herself trapped in Asa’s basement, which if filled with occult items. Eventually the body shift reverses and they each return to their original bodies. Knowing that if they swap once more, the change will be permanent, Elizabeth demands that Edward go to their vacation home while she “takes care of business” at home.

Elizabeth goes to her office, and Asa shows up that night. She gets Asa talking and learns that Asa’s body (and Ephraim’s before) is actually possessed by an ancient spirit that’s been swapping bodies for millenia. The spirit says that if Elizabeth lets it take her body (it’s first female one), it will not harm her family or friends. But if she resists, the spirit will take her body by force and do what it wants. Elizabeth threatens to kill herself rather than let the spirit take her, and while they continue to talk, she manages to covertly hypnotize the spirit. While dazed, Elizabeth pushes Asa out of the office window and he falls 4 stories to the ground below. She then runs over the corpse multiple times with her car before the police arrive and arrest her.

Daniella visits Elizabeth in a padded cell for suspects suffering from mental disorders. Elizabeth tells her story to Daniella. Before Daniella can respond, Asa’s horribly mangled corpse regains consciousness (much to the horror of the coroner) and speaks the words to swap bodies with Elizabeth permanently. Elizabeth, now inhabited by the spirit, tries to seduce Daniella. But Daniella is able to resist and then accepts that everything Elizabeth told her was true. The spirit (in Elizabeth’s body) escapes her cell and Daniella chases after her with a gun stolen from a nearby guard. They swap bodies twice during the chase. Daniella is finally about to shoot Elizabeth when she sees Asa’s corpse with Elizabeth trapped inside crawling towards them. Daniella instead puts Elizabeth out of her misery by shooting her dead as the guards tackle both Daniella and “Elizabeth.” While on the ground, Elizabeth begins speaking the body swapping spell once more.

The film ends with Edward visiting Daniella to get closure after his wife’s murderous breakdown. Daniella flirts with Edward and, after he leaves, starts smoking the same cigarettes Ephraim and Asa did after the spirit had taken their bodies. We then cut to Elizabeth’s body, still in a padded cell. She screams to herself that her name is Daniella Upton and that this is not her body. In other words, the spirit is now inhabiting Daniella’s body, and Daniella is stuck in Elizabeth’s body.
