The Woman in Black haunting Eel Marsh House is the vengeful spirit of woman, who became extremely spiteful after her son (adopted by her sister) drowned in the swamp surrounding the house.  She hung herself in the nursery and placed a curse on the town – whenever her ghost is seen, a child in the town dies.  Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) becomes fearful for the life of his son Joseph, who is about to come to town and visit him.  Arthur believes that he can put The Woman in Black to rest by recovering her son’s body from the swamp, which he does with the help of Sam Daily (Ciarán Hinds).  The plan to put Woman in Black to rest seemingly works when the ghost comes in contact with her son’s body and Arthur and Sam proceed to bury the son’s body in his mother’s grave.

Arthur and Sam go to the train station to meet Joseph.  Sam tells the nanny to buy tickets to go back to London, however, as he is doing so, The Woman in Black (who will NEVER forgive) influences Joseph to walk onto the tracks, just as a train is arriving.  Arthur runs onto the tracks to save him and both are hit.  The film ends with Arthur and Joseph in the afterlife as they are reunited with Arthur’s dead wife.
