SHORT VERSION:
While Nick and Hillary are working with Hillary’s old lover Nigel and his resistance fighters Du Quois, Déjà Vu, and Chocolate Mousse to rescue Hillary’s father, Dr. Flammond, from Flurgendorf Prison, Nigel reveals himself as the traitor to the resistance when he tries to force Du Quois to sabotage the mission. He fails, however, and after escaping from the prison, he confronts Hillary at the getaway truck with gun drawn just after she has found out on her own that he is the traitor. He explains to her that the freighter that rescued him after he left her on the island that they were stranded on was a Russian freighter, and during his recuperation, the crew converted him to Communism. He never told his newfound comrades to rescue Hillary because he knew that, if he did return to her, he would have to leave them behind. He then forces Hillary to get into the truck and drives off with her.

Nick, Déjà Vu, and Chocolate Mousse find Dr. Flammond and get him out, but after they reach the spot where their getaway truck is supposed to be and notice that it is not there, Du Quois appears and informs them that Nigel has betrayed them. After the group blows up a jeep carrying a bunch of troops that pursued them, another resistance member, Latrine, suddenly shows up and informs everyone that Nigel put Hillary into their truck and drove off, and he points in the direction they left in. Nick decides to go after them on a motorcycle resting nearby while Dr. Flammond and the others get into the burning jeep (which still works) and head for the airfield where their plane is waiting for them. Nick catches up to the truck and starts fighting Nigel while their vehicles are still in motion, and when they get to a bridge over a river, Nick pulls Nigel out and sends them both into the water. They then proceed to have an underwater fistfight in an Old Western saloon, and Nick wins it after he punches Nigel through a window. He then comes out of the water, rejoins Hillary, and rides with her on the motorcycle to the airfield.

Once they get there, Hillary joyfully embraces her father, but then she tells him that she wants to stay in Germany and continue helping the resistance. However, the resistance fighters tell her that it is too dangerous for her to remain here and that she must go with her father and Nick, and they also add that, as long as they hear Nick’s music wherever it is available, they know that they are not alone in their fight. Nick tells Hillary that they are right, and then he asks her if she wants to come to America with him. Having fallen in love with him, she tells him that she wants to do that more than anything, and they share a kiss. She then bids the resistance farewell and flies away with Nick and her father.

LONG VERSION:
Nick (Val Kilmer) and Hillary (Lucy Gutteridge) make it to the hideout of the resistance, and after the resistance members greet them by pointing their guns at them, they tell them that they are here to see their leader, “The Torch,” because they have important information about Hillary’s father, Dr. Flammond (Michael Gough). They then find out that “The Torch” is Nigel (Christopher Villiers), Hillary’s old lover who spent several years stranded on a deserted island with her until he went out to sea one day to go fishing and never returned. After having a happy reunion with him, Hillary introduces him to Nick, and Nigel apologizes to Nick for his men being less than hospitable towards him because they have reason to believe that there is a traitor somewhere in the resistance. After Nick is introduced to the other soldiers (with particular focus on Du Quois [Harry Ditson], Déjà Vu [Jim Carter], and Chocolate Mousse [Eddie Tagoe]), Nigel asks him what news he has brought them. Nick informs everyone that he has seen Dr. Flammond in Flurgendorf Prison, and Flammond warned him that the Polaris Mine would be ready on Sunday for the Germans to use. Nigel declares that they must move out tonight, and after telling Hillary that he needs to excuse himself for a moment, he orders the soldiers to prepare the necessary gear for an airplane jump. Nick expresses his dislike to Hillary over how she apparently wants to rekindle her relationship with Nigel despite them having done some romantic things together over the last few days, then tells her that maybe it would be best for them to forget everything that has happened between them up to this point. Nigel then returns and tells Nick that they have arranged safe transportation across the border for him tonight out of gratitude for keeping Hillary safe and giving them this information. Nigel and Hillary then have a private chat, and Nigel soon explains to Hillary that, when he went out fishing on the day of his disappearance, some things happened that left him floating at sea for days in a near-unconscious state. Thankfully, he was picked up by a passing freighter, but he was unable to persuade the crew to go to the island to rescue her because none of them spoke or understood English.

Suddenly, a bunch of wounded resistance fighters come stumbling in through the front door, and Nigel soon asks one of them, Latrine (Dimitri Andreas), what he and the others fighters found out. Latrine replies that they were slaughtered by German troops, and said troops are now coming up the road to attack the rest of them. Seconds later, the Germans start firing their guns at them from outside the hideout, and though Nick joins in on the fight, the resistance soon find themselves overwhelmed. Du Quois informs Nigel that they are running out of time and that their airplane will not wait for them, so Nigel decides that they must make a break for it and rendezvous at the pizza parlor near the landing field. After Nick, Hillary, Nigel, Du Quois, Déjà Vu, and Chocolate Mousse meet up there and sit down at one of the tables, Nigel tells his fellow resistance members that they will take off in their plane at 1:00 a.m. to do their mission to free Dr. Flammond, and he tells Nick that a truck will be passing by this place at midnight that will take him to the border, so all he has to do is jump onto the back of it when it comes. However, Chocolate Mousse points out that Nick is the only person amongst them who knows the inside of Flurgendorf Prison, and Du Quois adds that this now makes Nick indispensable. Nick tells them that he has no desire to go back into that prison again, but as he starts to head for the door, Hillary stops him and tells him that, while she knows how he feels about her, she is asking him to put his feelings aside for something more important. Nick asks if he has to hear from her again how she and Nigel are fighting for a great cause, and she replies that this cause is his cause, too, because of his music and how it clearly gives hope to others. She begs him to help the resistance, for the cause of freedom if not for her. Suddenly, Latrine enters the parlor and puts a dead carrier pigeon on their table that was bound for German headquarters, and Du Quois reads the message contained in its pouch, which warns the Germans that the resistance is going to try to free Dr. Flammond this Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. Nigel remarks that this means that the traitor is someone at this very table, and he soon infers that Nick is that traitor when he tells the others that they have absolutely no proof that Nick is who he claims to be, and yet they are asking him to lead them into the most heavily guarded prison in Germany. He also recaps the facts of how Nick came to them with no credentials, the Germans did not know the location of their hideout until he came along, and they know that they have been infiltrated by a traitor. Nick thus performs an impromptu song and dance number for the patrons to prove that he is on the level, and off-screen, he agrees to help the resistance with their rescue mission.

An hour later, Nick, Hillary, and the resistance get on their plane, and a few hours after that, they parachute out and land in an area close to the prison. On the way down, Hillary tells Nick that this might be the last time that she will get to see him because they don’t know what is going to happen down there, and she just wants him to know that, when they got intimate two nights ago, she had no idea that Nigel was still alive. Nick asks what this means now that she knows that he is, and she replies that she must stay with Nigel because she knows how important his work is to him, plus he told her that he needed her by his side to fight for the cause. However, she tells Nick that that is all that Nigel means to her, and she hopes that he realizes that. She then says that she doesn’t know what is right any longer; she only wishes that she didn’t love Nick so much. They then share a kiss.

In the morning, the resistance hides in a spot in the woods near the prison that offers a clear view of the front gates, and after spotting a herd of cows being moved around outside the prison grounds, Nigel tells the others that those cows are the key to their whole plan. He tells them that, when the cows are being brought back into the prison for their morning milking, he and Du Quois will put on a cow costume and merge with the herd so they can get past the gate and the electrified fence undetected. Once inside, they will break away from the other cows and enter the generator building, and at exactly 7:25 a.m., they will cut the power. Then, Nick and the rest of the resistance will enter through the fence and scale a wall near the prison’s front doors to reach the second floor, and once they reach it, Nick will lead the others to Flammond’s cell. Meanwhile, Hillary will steal a truck by the nearby railway crossing and position herself in a spot to pick them up once they have completed their tasks, after which they will drive to the landing field where their plane will be waiting for them. After everyone else goes where they need to go, Du Quois gets out the cow costume, but Nigel orders him to let him be the back half of it.

After Nigel and Du Quois get into the prison and turn off the power, Nick, Déjà Vu, and Chocolate Mousse pull off their tasks and take out a couple of guards in the process, and they infiltrate the prison and make their way to where Flammond is being held by having Déjà Vu and Chocolate Mousse pose as the guards they subdued and having Nick pretend to be a prisoner that they are escorting to a cell. They find Dr. Flammond’s cell and free him, and Nick assures him that Hillary is safe and that she is with them. However, as Nigel and Du Quois are walking away from the generator building, Nigel orders Du Quois to go back to it so they can turn the power back on. When Du Quois refuses after pointing out that this will set off the alarm and trap the others, Nigel puts his pistol in his back to force him to carry out his order, revealing that HE is the traitor. However, while they are making their way back, the herd’s bull – thinking that they are an actual cow – suddenly mounts Nigel from behind and rapes him, giving Du Quois a chance to escape.

Shortly afterwards, while Hillary is waiting at the getaway truck, she gets chilly and decides to warm herself up by putting on Nigel’s coat. However, she is surprised to find it loaded with live carrier pigeons, and after realizing that this makes Nigel the traitor, Nigel suddenly shows up with his gun pointed right at her. He then explains that the freighter that rescued him was a Russian one, and while the crew was nursing him back to health, he converted to Communism. He also tells her that he didn’t return to the island to save her because he knew that, if he did, it would mean leaving his newfound comrades. He then orders Hillary to get in the truck. After Nick, Dr. Flammond, and the others get out of the prison, General Streck (Jeremy Kemp) is notified about Flammond’s escape, so he orders his troops to go after them. When Nick and company get to the spot where their getaway truck is supposed to be and notice that it is not there, Du Quois appears before them, and he tells them that Nigel has betrayed them. Some German guards then make their way towards them in a jeep, but Chocolate Mousse shoots at them and blows out one of their tires, causing them to drive right towards a Pinto and then die in the subsequent explosion when the jeep barely bumps into it. Latrine suddenly shows up again and tells the others that Nigel put Hillary into their getaway truck and drove off, and he points in the direction they left in. Flammond tells the others that he cannot leave this country without his daughter, and after Nick notices a motorcycle conveniently resting nearby, he tells the others that he is going after Nigel and Hillary and that he will meet them at the landing field. Du Quois warns him that, whether he makes it there or not, the plane must take off with Flammond at 6 p.m. Flammond and the resistance then hop into the still-burning German jeep, which surprisingly still works, and they drive off towards the field.

Nick catches up to the truck and has a fight with Nigel while their vehicles are still in motion, and when they reach a bridge over a river, Nick pulls Nigel out and sends them both into the water. They then proceed to have an underwater fistfight in an Old Western saloon until Nick defeats Nigel by punching him through a window. Nick then comes out of the water, reunites with Hillary (who was able to get out of the truck and onto the motorcycle after he and Nigel fell out), and heads for the landing field with her.

They reach the plane just as the others are about to leave without them, and Hillary joyfully embraces her father. Hillary tells her father that she wants to stay here in Germany and continue helping the resistance, but the resistance tells her that it is too dangerous for her to remain here and that she must go with her father and Nick. They also add that, as long as they hear Nick’s music wherever it is available, they know that they are not alone in their fight. Nick tells Hillary that they are right, and he also tells her that, while he wants her to come with him to America, she should tell him right now if she doesn’t want to. Hillary replies that she wants to come with him more than anything, and they share a kiss. She then bids the resistance farewell and flies away with Nick and her father.
