Vicky (Moira Shearer) is forced to choose between her love of dance and her love for her husband.

After a heated confrontation with both Julian (Marius Goring) and Boris (Anton Walbrook) she goes completely mad and jumps out a window to her death. With her last breath she asks Julian to remove the red pointed shoes.

That night, a tearful Boris announces to the audience that despite Vicky’s death, a performance of The Red Shoes will go on in her honor, with a spotlight in the place of where Vicky would have danced.
