After the operation goes south and Sgt. Abell (Luke Hemsworth) is shot and killed, Sgt. JJ Kinney (Liam Hemsworth) is captured by Abu Sayyaf insurgents only to be rescued by his squad commander Master Sgt. John “Sugar” Sweet (Milo Ventimiglia). Sweet tells Kinney that the remaining member of their squad, Sgt. Bishop (Ricky Whittle) is alive and they go back to the compound where he is being held. Setting up a series of airstrikes with drone pilots, Kinney and Sweet storm the compound, and enact multiple casualties before being captured.

Sweet is personally executed by the Abu Sayyaf leader Hashimi (Robert Rabiah) who proceeds to torture Kinney, not believing his warnings about the bombs. The second strike hits and Kinney survives being submerged in water during torture. Kinney rescues Bishop and the CIA asset they were sent to find and kills Hashimi, avenging Sweet.

With only minutes to call off the third and final strike that will collapse the tunnels and kill them, Kinney uses a satellite phone to call the air force base only to be brushed off and be given the number of Eddie “Reaper” Grimm (Russell Crowe), the drone pilot that had been his main overwatch. Missing his call, Grimm hears his voicemail and is able to get the final air strike called off with seconds to spare.

Kinney and the others are rescued. Grimm admonishes his fellow servicemen for ignoring the phone for a basketball game and nearly getting three men killed, destroying a television in anger. Grimm and his co pilot Staff Sgt. Nia Branson (Chika Ikogwe) leave for the day to get rest, and Branson asks Grimm, since her father is no longer alive, to walk her down the aisle at her wedding, to which he accepts.
