All About Eve
Academy Awards – BEST PICTURE – 1950

Seemingly naive ingenue Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) seems to be an adoring fan of Margo Channing (Bette Davis), and only Margo’s assistant Birdie Coonan (Thelma Ritter) is suspicious.

Eve maneuvers herself to a starring Broadway role by her manipulation of aging star Margo and Margo’s friends Karen Richards (Celest Holm) and playwright Lloyd Richards (Hugh Marlowe).

Eve fails to seduce Margo’s boyfriend Bill Sampson (Gary Merrill), and Margo decides to retire from acting and marry Bill.

Theatre critic Addison deWitt (George Sanders) mentors Eve’s talent but reveals to her he knows what a snake she really is.

At the end, Eve meets an adoring young fan who will be her assistant, and it is implied that Eve the betrayer will eventually be betrayed herself.

Thanks Joy Z… who adds the following commentary:
Great movie, great story and acting. Witty dialogue – “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night” is a classic line from this film.
Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director Joseph Mankiewicz, Best Suporting Actor George Sanders, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Edith Head for Best Costumes. Bette Davis was nominated for Best Actress, and Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm, and Thelma Ritter were all 3 nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
