Anaconda(1997)

Pooper:
An anaconda eats Serone, before it (and its babies) are killed in an explosion set off by Terri and Danny. They reunite with a recovered Steven and sail back towards civilization. Along the way, they see (and obtain footage of) the hidden Amazonian tribe they were searching for.

Long Ending:
Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez) is a filmmaker who has journeyed to the Amazon to search for and obtain footage of a hidden tribe. She’s accompanied by her film crew – childhood friend Danny (Ice Cube), and couple Gary (Owen Wilson) and Denise (Kari Wuhrer) – producer/boyfriend Steven (Eric Stoltz), on-screen host Warren (Jonathan Hyde), and riverboat captain Mateo (Vincent Castellanos). They set out on the river to search for the tribe. One night, they rescue an ex-priest and current snake-hunter named Paul Cerone (Jon Voight) whose boat has sunk in a storm. Although Cerone is creepy and confrontational, he has a lot of experience navigating the waterways and claims to know the location of the tribe. He even saves Gary and Denise when they are attacked by a wild boar.

One day, the boat engine gets tangled in weeds. Steven dons diving gear and untangles the engine, but is attacked and stung by a venomous wasp that was nesting in his gear. Cerone gives Steven a tracheotomy (which saves his life), but Steven falls unconscious and is in need of proper medical treatment. Cerone recommends they take a tributary that can get them back to civilization faster. But it soon becomes clear to the crew that he guided them there because the tributary is home to valuable anacondas that he intends to hunt. Indeed, Cerone, Mateo, and a third snake hunter (cameo by Danny Trejo) had been hunting the anacondas in the tributary when a particularly large one destroyed their ship and their third partner killed himself rather than be eaten. It’s revealed Mateo and Cerone set up a plot to get back to the tributary (Mateo posed as a captain for hire to acquire a new ship, Cerone pretended to be stranded, and Cerone planted the wasp in Steven’s gear to injure him and force the crew to take his “shortcut” through the snake’s territory). Cerone and Mateo find their wrecked boat and recover the anaconda hunting gear stranded there, although Mateo is attacked and eaten by the anaconda (voiced by Frank Welker) hiding nearby. Cerone then convinces Gary to partner with him in hunting the anaconda (promising him thousands if they capture it). But the snake proves to be too much for them, and Gary is eaten when he sacrifices himself to save Denise from the snake.

Terri, Warren and Danny manage to ambush Cerone and tie him up. They begin sailing in earnest back to civilization, but are running low on fuel. They accidentally run the ship aground in shallow water, and Terri, Danny, and Warren must traverse through the shallows to hook up a winch. The anaconda attacks the trio and crushes Warren to death. Meanwhile, Denise tries to stab and kill Cerone for getting Gary eaten, but the trained killer manages to overwhelm and kill Denise instead. Cerone then cuts himself free from his bonds.The snake attacks Danny while simultaneously trying to eat Denise’s corpse, but Terri shoots the snake dead with a rifle (saving Danny). An irate Cerone then attacks Terri and Danny when they climb back aboard the ship. He almost kills the pair, but is knocked out by Steven (who briefly regained consciousness). They knock Cerone into the water and abandon him.

Danny and Terri continue down the river, and spot an abandoned warehouse. They stop there to look for fuel. The duo are then ambushed and knocked out by Cerone, who uses them as bait for a snake trap he’s set up. It turns out that the warehouse is a nesting area for another huge anaconda. It attacks the duo and is caught in the trap. But the snake manages to escape and pursues Cerone while Terri and Danny flee. The snake catches and eats Cerone, before turning its attention to Terri. The anaconda vomits up Cerone’s corpse so it has enough stomach space to eat Terri. Danny manages to douse the warehouse and snake in fuel and lights a fuse. Terri escapes just as the snake ignites. The warehouse explodes and the snake falls into the river. Terri reunites with Danny, only for the badly burned anaconda to pop out of the water for another attack. Danny grabs a nearby axe and chops the wounded snake apart. She and Danny recover the remaining fuel and reunite with Steven on the boat. As they sail, they find the hidden tribe and manage to get footage of them.
