Enemy at the Gates

Major Koenig (Ed Harris) knows that Sacha (Gabriel Thompson) is feeding him information untimately designed to help Vassili (Jude Law). Koenig executes Sacha in order to enrage Vassili. Tania (Rachel Weisz) is hit by mortar shrapnel as she tries to help Mrs. Filipov (Eva Mattes) escape Stalingrad. Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), stricken by remorse after what he believes to be the death of Tania, redeems his un-communist envy of Vassili by “showing” him where Koenig is; that is, by revealing himself and getting shot in the head. Vassili is then able to track and kill Koenig. After the Nazis are forced to retreat, Vassili and Tania are reunited.
