Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die

Synopsis

An unnamed man from the future (Sam Rockwell) arrives in the present day to warn a diner full of strangers that the world is doomed and that he needs to organize a team of people for a dangerous mission, which is to track down a nine-year-old boy who is going to create the AI that will devastate the world. The Man is joined by a teacher couple named Mark and Janet (Michael Peña and Zazie Beetz), a grieving mother named Susan, diner patrons Bob, Marie, and Scott, and a mysterious young woman named Ingrid (Haley Lu Richardson), who suffers from an allergy to electronics and anything with a wi-fi signal.

Flashbacks show that Mark, Janet, Susan, and Ingrid all were previously affected by the AI, as it used an app to mind-control the students at Mark and Janet’s school, pretended to speak to Susan as her dead son, and created a virtual reality world that Ingrid’s boyfriend left her for. Bob, Marie, and Scott get killed throughout the journey, while masked gunmen also target The Man after being hired by the AI, but they get killed too. Mark and Janet lure the teens away from the others so they can complete their mission.

The Man, Susan, and Ingrid track down the boy’s home and face off against the AI. It reveals to Ingrid that she is The Man’s mother, which is why he was protecting her so closely throughout the night since the AI kills her in the future. Ingrid uses a drive that The Man was carrying to inject a virus into the AI, seemingly defeating it. However, The Man quickly realizes they are in a simulated reality created by the AI, and they haven’t stopped it.

The Man returns to the start of the evening and plans to weaponize Ingrid’s allergy so the whole world will be unaffected by the AI. He then grabs Ingrid and proceeds to round up another team.
