Catherine (Gwyneth Paltrow) did write the astounding mathematical proof found among her father’s (Anthony Hopkins’) things. At the film’s end, she seems willing to forgive Hal (Jake Gyllenhaal) for doubting her, but the question of whether she inherited her father’s insanity as well as his talent for math remains unresolved.
