The Fantastic Four – Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/The Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) – have been the protectors of Earth 828 for four years after the cosmic event that gave them their powers. As Sue is ready to give birth to her first child with Reed, Earth is threatened by the arrival of Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), a cosmic being that heralds the arrival of her master, Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who consumes and destroys planets.
The Four fly out into space to confront Galactus, but although he is willing to spare the planet, he wants the Four to give them Reed and Sue’s baby, knowing that he possesses a great power that will relieve Galactus of his hunger for planets. The Four refuse to give up the baby, and Sue gives birth to the boy, Franklin, on the way back. The people of Earth turn on the Four for the belief that they are sacrificing their planet for their baby, but Sue convinces the public that they are working towards preventing the attack.
Reed constructs a series of bridges that will teleport Earth to another universe to prevent Galactus’ arrival. However, Shalla-Bal destroys the bridges. Johnny, who has been researching her and her species, learns that Shalla-Bal sacrificed herself to become Galactus’ herald so that he would spare her planet and her daughter.
The Four resort to using Franklin as bait as they try to lure Galactus towards a portal that will send him through a void away from Earth while making a deal with their enemy Mole Man to evacuate the citizens to an underground city. Galactus finds Franklin and grabs him, leading to the Four working together to save the baby and defeat the titan. Sue generates a large enough forcefield to push Galactus through while Reed saves Franklin. Johnny attempts to sacrifice himself to ensure Galactus stays put, but Shalla-Bal does the deed herself and goes through the portal with him. Sue dies from overexerting herself, but Franklin uses his powers to revive her.
The Fantastic Four are once again seen as heroes. Four years later, Sue is alone at home with Franklin, when they are suddenly visited by Doctor Doom.
