15 years before, DEA agent John Lawlor (Luke Evans) was undercover in Taipei when he fell in love with driver and courier Joey (Gwei Lun-Mei). When his bosses urge him to take an easy win and arrest Joey, John revealed his identity to her, and begged her to flee. Joey, who was pregnant with his child, ultimately married Kwang (Sung Kang), for protection and someone to help raise her son, Raymond.

Years later, John unknowingly receives information that he can bring down Kwang. It was provided by Raymond, who, unaware of his stepfather’s drug activities, wanted him punished for his corrupt actions in his legitimate fishing business. Though Kwang tries to kill Raymond, Joey is able to save him, reunite with John and reveal that he is Raymond’s father

After reconciling with Joey and Raymond, John is able, after many close calls, to bring Kwang to justice and retrieve evidence of his drug smuggling. Ordered by his boss to take extended leave, John, Joey, and Raymond go to Paris, where Joey tells John she is pregnant with their second child. The film ends with Joey giving birth to their daughter, the family now together and at peace.
